Prepare your pool for the off-season with this checklist:
1. Clean Pool Thoroughly
Skim debris, brush walls, and vacuum the pool floor.
2. Balance the Water Chemistry
Adjust pH, alkalinity, and calcium hardness; shock the water if needed.
3. Add Winterizing Chemicals
Use algaecide, chlorine, and/or a pool enzyme treatment to prevent growth and staining.
4. Lower the Water Level
Reduce water below the skimmer and return lines (based on your pool type) to prevent freezing damage.
5. Drain and Winterize Pool Equipment
Remove water from pumps, filters, heaters, and pipes to prevent freezing. Hire professionals if necessary.
6. Remove and Store Equipment
Take out ladders, skimmer baskets, and pool toys. Clean and store them in a dry area.
6. Cover the Pool Securely
Use a clean, properly fitting pool cover to keep out debris and protect the pool and water. Hire professionals if necessary.
